As Australia reopens to tourism, visitors are rediscovering all the things that they love about the Land Down Under. Now is the best time to visit, and check off your favourite tourist destinations from your bucket list.

After a long run of travel restrictions, Australia has finally opened its borders to international tourists! If visiting Australia has always been on your to-do list, these are just a few of the top landmarks visitors have been flocking to since reopening from the pandemic.

Sydney Opera House

The iconic Sydney Opera House is by far the most recognisable structure in Sydney, Australia. Located on the banks of Sydney Harbour, the Sydney Opera House is a multi-venue performing arts space and no trip to Sydney is complete without at least a picture.

Bondi Beach

The white sands of Bondi Beach have become a must-see for tourists in Sydney. Bondi Beach is one of the largest beaches in the area and thanks to its amazing surf and bustling social scene, it’s become Australia’s most famous beach as well.

Hunter Valley

Hunter Valley is the birthplace of Australian wine. Known for its Semillon and Shiraz, Hunter Valley has become the go-to destination for wine lovers from all over the world.

Daintree Rainforest

The Daintree Rainforest is one of Queensland’s most unique experiences and has become a major tourist attraction thanks to its rare species of plants and wildlife. Located north of Mossman and Cairns, the Daintree Rainforest is a little slice of paradise that’s well worth the trip.

The Great Barrier Reef

The world’s largest coral reef system is one of Australia’s natural wonders and attracts around 2 million visitors a year! Tourists flock to the Great Barrier Reef to sail, swim, snorkel, dive, and have a once in a lifetime experience.

Kakadu National Park

After lifting mask mandates, tourists have begun returning in droves to Kakadu National Park. This sprawling park in the Northern Territory is a treasure to behold. The park features rock art galleries, wetlands, and rivers as well as 2,000 plant species and saltwater crocodiles.

If you’ve put off planning your trip to Australia, there’s no better time to take the plunge. Dash Chauffeur offers Sydney airport taxi services and more to help make your next vacation perfect.

The main hotel areas in Sydney – Getting the lay of the land

Sydney is a very spread out city; it covers a large geographic area. Hotels and major attractions are spread across a few key spots around the harbour and central business district and into inner-city suburbs, areas the city council likes to refer to as villages.

These villages include Surry Hills, Elizabeth Bay, Potts Point, Kings Cross, Darlinghurst, Chippendale, Redfern and Newton. Add to these beach suburbs like Bondi and Manly.

Sydney’s main accommodation hubs are in the following areas:

  • Central Business District or CBD
  • The Rocks and Circular Quay
  • Pyrmont and Darling Harbour
  • Central and Chippendale
  • Surry Hills and Paddington
  • Kings Cross and Potts Point
  • Newtown and Redfern
  • Bondi Junction and Beach
  • Manly Beach

Each of these areas has pros and cons which we will expand on below. We have also added some of our favourite hotel options in each spot.

To be included in our list, the hotels need to have good transport connections, offer free wi-fi and have an average guest rating of over 8 on TripAdvisor.

I would happily book any of the hotels listed below and have stayed in or inspected all of them.

Central Business District (CBD)

The CBD is smack bang in the middle of the city and surrounded by shops, bars and transport. This area is home to government offices, multinational companies, and is the central shopping district.

As for the key attractions, you can easily walk to The Rocks, Circular Quay, Chinatown and even Kings Cross if you enjoy walking as much as we do!

The bulk of the big brand hotels chains are in this area. There are also several serviced apartment buildings.
